2011

I have been experimenting with my materials and looking at the strength of the over sized sugar cubes that i create. I have been doing this by dropping the sugar cubes and filming it. I have been overwhelmed by the strength of the material that i use; it seems soft and crumbly on the surface but it proves to be practically indestructable.

I was interested in creating coloured sugar objects as seen below and wanted to link this into Britains past and the salve trade. I therefore created sugar triangles a coloured them in relation to the Union Jack and black to symbolise the salves.

2010

At the end of 2010 i was asked by the Noiselab to create some postcard sized works for their secret santa charity sale in Manchester. The work was on show alongside works by Carol Ann Duffy, Aardman Animations, Wayne Heminhway and Elvis Costello. The syringe postcard was an ironic relationship to diabetes as it was created from 3 different types of sugar and the Union Jack was a comment on the countries over indulgence of sugary foods that results in an increased number of people suffering with diabetes.

2009

I more recently have been thinking about coloured sugar cubes and what they could mean. I went for the complete opposite and created a black sugar cube possibly representing sugar trade in the UK and the use of slavery.

II toyed with the idea of placing the images of the dissolving sugar cube onto sugar sachets to be used in cafes and restaurants. This is an image of the prototype. The idea was never followed through to completion.

2007

In 2007 i created a giant sugar cube that sat ona bed of 365 needle tips to represent the balance and frigility of controlling diabetes.

Also in 2007 i projected a video of a tightrope walker onto the side of a sugar cube built of standard sugar cubes. Again to represent the balance required to control diabetes.
